Nicole Hawkins, MSW, LICSW, LCSW (Owner/Founder):

Nicole Hawkins, the visionary behind Northwoods Therapeutic Services, has been making an impact in the mental health field in Duluth for over 18 years. She earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2013 and has since dedicated herself to diverse roles within the field. Her extensive experience spans direct care, individual therapy, ARMHS, forensic and residential care, crisis, administrative management, multidisciplinary work,  program development, clinical supervision, and leadership positions as both Treatment Director and Clinical Director in multiple organizations. Nicole has primarily served the following areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin:  Duluth, Superior Carlton, Cloquet, Wrenshall, Proctor, Moose Lake areas. However, telehealth has made it possible for Nicole to provide services all over the state or Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Though business ownership was not initially part of her career plan, Nicole's passion for promoting wellness—both organizational and individual—ignited as she witnessed the challenges and opportunities within the field. Her commitment to fostering meaningful change inspired the creation of Northwoods Therapeutic Services, a practice devoted to helping individuals from all walks of life achieve their fullest potential and personal goals.

For Nicole, wellness is more than a concept—it’s a way of life. In a society that often prioritizes constant productivity, perfectionism, and connectivity at the expense of self-care, she envisions a shift. Her dream is to build an environment rooted in psychological safety and holistic wellness, one that begins with clinicians and extends to every client they serve. Nicole's work reflects her belief that when we prioritize recovery, self-care, and balance, we can truly transform lives and create a healthier, more supportive community.

A blurb for perspective clients from Nicole:

Congratulations on taking the first step to wellness. Even beginning to look for a therapist can be challenging; as there are many different specialties and people to choose from. As a therapist, I am extremely passionate about helping each individual I serve to obtain their personal wellness or maybe just to process difficult/challenging history. Life can be tough, and therapy is there to help; much like seeing a doctor when you are feeling ill or out of sorts. I have a passion for helping people identify and embrace their worth, and rediscover the joy of being human. I approach each person from a non-judgmental and exploratory approach, as labels only help us to categorize and do not allow for intricacies of human nature. My approach to your wellness, includes cognitive behavioral techniques, empowerment, DBT informed, EMDR, and solution focused. My primary areas of specialty include trauma, anxiety, depression, SPMI, crisis, post-natal transition, and problematic sexual concerns/behaviors. I am trained in EMDR, various areas of sexuality, and various areas of supervision/conflict management.

A little about me, I obtained my Masters of Social Work from the University of Minnesota Duluth and have over a decade in post masters experience, but have been working with people for many more. I have three kids, three dogs, two cats, and some chickens. I enjoy running, hiking, snowshoeing, snowboarding and glamping. I am also an avid reader.
